To the east of Piggott, and immediately adjacent to Piggott, lies the celebrated St. Francis Valley, known as one of the richest and most fertile valleys in the world, the soil of which produces wheat from 20 to 50 bushels per acre, corn from 40 to 100 bushels per acre, cotton from 1,000 to 2,500 lbs per acre and clover and timothy from one to three tons per cutting per acre, and it without doubt the finest hog and cattle country in the whole Mississippi valley, leading the entire state in pure bread registered cattle, hogs, and sheep. Clay county is all white - no negroes in the county. Less crime, according to court records, in Clay county than in any county in the state of Arkansas and Missouri.
