Winkley Bridge

Cleburne County, Arkansas

The Winkley Bridge was 550 feet total length by 10 feet wide and built in 1912 by contractor Harry Churchill.  The bridge was closed to vehicular use in 1972 and actually collapsed on October 28, 1989.  Five pedestrians were killed and 18 were wounded.

Winkley Bridge was constructed in 1912 - 1972 over the Red River and demolished in 1989.  This marker posted by B. & P.W. of Heber Springs, Arkansas.
