Turtle Rocks
You are standing in the "turtle rocks." The rock patterns resemble the
plates of a turtle shell.
For millions of years ground water has percolated through the crevices,
cracks, and cross-bedding, causing oxidation of iron and other heavy
minerals in the sandstone.
Even though these formations appear permanent, the surface of the rock
is soft and easily damaged by foot traffic. You can help preserve these
unique formations by not climbing on them.
