St. Francis River Flood

1935 - 1936

Robert Stroupe has sent us some interesting photographs of the 1936 St. Francis River Flood.  These people are nurses and volunteers located at make-ship hospitals and refugee camps in Cross and Crittenden County.  Take a look and see if you can identify any of these people.  Also, he would be willing to donate the originals to an appropriate historical project if you are interested.  He can be reached at rlstroupe@gmail.com if you have more info.

Tina Easley transcribed a diary that illustrates the despair these people went through.  It is well worth reading at: http://www.usgennet.org/usa/ar/county/greene/flooddiary1937.htm

and more, really, really moving pictures at:  http://www.argenweb.net/greene/GREENECOARLINKS/1937refugeesflo.htm

This is Robert's grandmother, Musette Curtner Misner, and she was from Parkin.
