McGehee

Desha County, Arkansas

Greystone

From 1919

If every one knew as much about the McGehee and Desha County as the people who paid for this advertisement, the above heading would be all that would be required, because McGehee, Desha County, Arkansas, is synonymous with "the home and place of people with push, prosperity, and plenty."

Why is this true? Because of the geographical location, climatic conditions, and rich soil, good water, and good health.

McGehee is located in the extreme South Eastern portion of the great state of Arkansas, it twelve miles from the Mississippi river, one hundred miles South East of Little Rock, approximately one hundred and fifty miles south of Memphis, and ninety-three miles north of Monroe, La.

The real beginning of this City commenced in the Spring of 1905, a small village of some fifteen or twenty souls; today is it one of Arkansas' leading cities.

Our school system is second to none, nearly every religious denomination is represented, our water and light system is one of the most modern in the state.

Any person who will come to this city and county and embark in business or occupation he or she may qualify to follow and will give it due attention will succeed. We know this to be a fact for thousands are today succeeding both white and black.

The city of McGehee is ideally located for any business adapted to a Southern City, we are surrounded with soil of the richest in the country, we are close enough to Mississippi river to give us the advantage of river traffic, we have exceptionally advantageous railway facilities, five lines of railway branching out from this point, this feature has been realized by the wholesale people. The Saline Wholesale Grocery Co. has just located at this point and the Dermot Wholesale Grocery Co. has under construction a warehouse, while another company has purchased location for a third wholesale business.
