On January 21, 1933, In a prohibition raid on Big Island in Desha County by federal officers, a motorboat, 107 gallons of whiskey, a 750
gallon still, 66 barrels of mash and two men were captured. The men were George Box and
George Brown, who were in a 23 foot motor boat in the waters near Big Island and were transporting the
liquor, it was said. Box is said to have attempted to kill himself at Clarksdale, Mississippi
yesterday where he is in jail. He was taken to a hospital and escaped through a window, but was recaptured.
