11/19/1819 The Election

An election is held today thro' out the Territory of Arkansas, to elect one Delegate to
Congress; and for the election also, of one Member of the Legislative Council, and
two Members of the House of Representatives to represent each county in the First
Legislature of this territory. The following gentlemen are candidates. -

For Delegate to Congress: James W. Bates, Robert F. Slanghter, Petty Wallis, Alex
S. Walker, Henry Cassidy.

Arkansas County for the Legislative Council:
Sam C. Roane, Sylvanus Philips, Frederic Notrebe.

For the House of Representatives: William Craig, William O. Allen, Richmond Peeler,
William Trimble, Bartley Harrington, Harold Stillwell, Robert McKay, W.B.R. Horner
11/19/1819 Take Notice

All persons indebted to the estate of the late Samuel Moseley, deceased, are hereby
notified to call on the subscribers and pay their accounts, on or before the 1st of January
next, otherwise their accounts will be placed in the hands of an Attorney for collection,
without respect to persons. All those who have claims against said estate are requested
to present their accounts, properly authenticated, for settlement.

Libel for Divorce
This day came the Complainant by her attorney, in open Court, and it appearing that the
summons in this behalf issued, has not been served on said Defendant, and that he is not
a resident of this Territory, the court do order that publication be made in same
newspaper printed in this Territory, notifying the said Defendant to come in at our
next term of this court, and answer to said libel for divorce, and show cause, if any
he can, why the said divorce shall not be granted.

Samuel M. Rutherford,
Vs.
Nathaniel Pryor, surviving partner of Pryor and Richards.

Trespass case, attachment, debt $630, damages $1000.

ON motion of Samuel C. Roane, Esq. Plaintiffs attorney, the Defendant
being called, answered not, and it is ordered by the court that the said
Defendant, Nathaniel Pryor, surviving partner of Pryor & Richards, have
notice an attachment has issued against his estate, by Samuel M. Rutherford,
who claims of said Nathaniel surviving partner as aforesaid, six hundred and
thirty dollars, for work and labor done and performed by said Samuel M.
Rutherford, as a clerk in the service of said Nathaniel Pryor, surviving
partner as aforesaid, and that unless he shall appear by himself or attorney,
and file special bail to the aforesaid action, on or before the third day of the
next succeeding term, a judgment will be entered against him, the said
Nathaniel Pryor, surviving partner of Pryor & Richards, and his estate sold
to satisfy the same.

On Monday, 29th ult. By W. King, Esq. Mr. Benjamin Kuykendall, to Miss Eliza
Harrington, daughter of Maj. John Harrington, all of this county.

On the 16th September last, at his residence near this place, Samuel Moseley,
in the 35th year of his age, a native of Aberdeen, (Scotland), and for several years
past a respectable merchant in this place.

Agreeable to an order of the Honorable Circuit Court of the County of Arkansas,
there will be exposed for sale on Wednesday, the 15th day of the present month,
at the Court House door of said county, a Runaway Negro slave, named John,
which slave has been for some time in the possession of Andrew Lattin, Esq. on the
Mississippi River. The sale to take place precisely at 12 o'clock of said day, for Cash,
the expenses of keeping and securing said slave.

By virtue of a writ of venditioni exponas to me directed, there will be sold to the
highest bidder, on Tuesday the 11th day of January next, being the second day
of this term of our Superior Court, at the Court House door, in the town of Arkansas
all the right the said Solomon Bodwell has to a certain improvement at the mouth of
the Point Amour Creek, on the Arkansas River. Taken in execution to satisfy the debt
and costs in the above suit. The sale to take place on the aforesaid Tuesday morning,
while the court is sitting.

12/11/1819 Texas - We hear that since the late movements of the Royalists in Texas, the families at Pecon Point, on Red River, have re-crossed that river to Hampstead county, fearing an attack from Spaniards.

By virtue of a writ of venditioni exponas, to me directed, there will be sold to the
highest bidder, on Tuesday the 11th day of January next, being the second day of
the term of our Superior Court, at the Court house door in the town of Arkansas,
all the right, title, interest, and claim the said George Orr has to 426 and 23 acres
of land; being an undivided part of 640 acres, confirmed to Joseph Sevier, lying
and situated on the waters of Beech Creek, a fork of the river. St. Francis, and
about one mile from said river. Taken in execution to satisfy the debt, interest,
and costs on the above suit. The sale to take place on the aforesaid Tuesday
morning, while the court is sitting.

Richmond Peeler

By virtue of a writ of venditioni exponas to me directed, there will be exposed for sale
to the highest bidder, on Tuesday the 11th day of January next being the second day
of the term of our Superior Court, at the Court house door, in the town of Arkansas, all
the right, title, and claim the said, Richmond Peeler has to a certain House and Lot
situated in the town of Arkansas and at present occupied as a printing office by William
E. Woodruff. Taken in execution, to satisfy the debt, interest, and costs in the above suit.

The sale to take place on the aforesaid Tuesday morning, while the court is sitting.

12/18/1819 The result of the recent election having vacated my judicial appointment, I shall return
to my professional pursuits. As however, I shall be necessarily absent from the Territory
for several months, perhaps until July next, I have made a transference of my business
(with a few special exceptions), to my friend, Robert Crittenden, Esq. To that gentleman
and my late clients are referred.

12/18/1819 Town of Fulton
The subscribers offer for sale at Public Auction, on the last Saturday of next April Court, from Forty to Fifty LOTS in the aforesaid Town.

The Town of Fulton is handsomely situated on the north-east bank of main Red River, about two miles below the mouth of Little Red River, and near the centre of the boundary of Arkansas Territory on Red River. It is the principal landing and place of deposit, for the county of Hampstead, and it is also the point at which the most direct road leading from Missouri territory, and many of the eastern states, to the extensive and fertile province of Texas, will cross said river.

Payment for said Lots will be divided into three equal installments, payable at 4,8, and 12 months. Liberal donations will be made to mechanics, by

Polly Taylor by her next friend, James Campbell,
Vs.
James Taylor on Petition for Divorce.

On motion of the Plaintiff, by her attorney, and reappearing to the satisfaction
of the court, by the return of the alias, that the Defendant is not an inhabitant
of the county, and the former order of publication not have been complied with
by the erection of the Territory of Arkansas - it is therefore ordered, that a
pluries sacomons open, commanding the said James Taylor to be and appear
at the next term of this court, to be holden at the town of Davidsonville, on the
fourth Monday of March next, to answer the complaint of the said Plaintiff. And
it is further ordered that a copy of this order be published for six weeks successfully
in the Arkansas Gazette, published in the town of Arkansas.
