04/15/1820 $100 Dollars Reward

Ran away from the U.S. Saline, Illinois, on the 14th February, a Negro Man,
named Dick, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, stoutly made, 22 or 23 years old, and
very black and ugly. He has a small scar on his forehead, cut with a knife,
and one on his left breast. His feet singularly shaped, being very narrow at
the heel and broad at the toes - his eyes are generally red. He is fond of
spirits and will steal anything upon which he can lay his hands. He is the
same fellow that absconded from Mr. David Garnsey of Missouri last July, and
who was put in Herculaneum jail for attempting to commit a rape upon a
white woman. From some circumstances I am disposed to think he will go
down the river, but whether he will endeavor to get into Texas, or stop in
any of the states or territories bordering on the Mississippi is doubtful.
Any person taking up with said Negro within this state shall receive a reward
of $50; and if taken anywhere out of the states, and notice given me thereof,
so that I obtain possession of him again, a reward of 100 dollars, and all
reasonable charges for bringing him to me.

John Forester
Shawneetown, February 20, 1820

04/29/1820 We are authorized to announce that Joseph Stillwell, Esq. will serve, if elected, to fill
the vacancy in the House of Representatives, of this Territory, occasioned by the
decease of Gen. Allen.

04/29/1820 We are sorry to learn that the warehouse of James S. Petty, Esq. Above the mouth of
the White River, on the Mississippi, accidentally took fire on the night of the 21st inst.
and was entirely destroyed. We learn that there was a quantity of furs from this place,
and some merchandise belonging here, which had been stored in the warehouse - but
a very small proportion of which was saved. Loss estimated at about $2500

04/29/1820 Blacksmithing

Samuel B. Wilson respectfully informs his friends and the public in general,
that he has returned to the Post of Arkansas, and will in a few days
commence the Blacksmith Business in all its various branches, at a shop
which he is erecting opposite the house of Mr. John Larquer. He will keep
constantly on hand a sufficient supply of iron and steel, to enable him to
accommodate the public in his line of business, at the shortest notice.

All orders will be executed in the neatest manner - and at reduced prices
for CASH. - April 22
