05/06/1820 Another Naval Hero Gone! - We are sorry to learn by gentlemen
from New Orleans, that a Duel was fought about the 20th March last, at
Bladensburgh, near Washington City, between Com. Baron and Com.
Decatur, in which the latter was mortally wounded, and survived only
about 24 hours. The challenge, we learn, was sent by Com. B.

05/20/1820 Notice

To Stephen F. Austin, William M.O' Hara, Amos Wheeler, James Bryan, Austin Elliott, Chester Ashley, and all others concerned or interested in any sort or pretence of claim to any part, or the whole, of the lands joining the southwardly margin of the Arkansas River, at and near a place called Little Rock in the County of Pulaski and Territory of Arkansas. To wit: All that part of the west fractional half of section number two, east fractional half, and north-west fractional quarter of section number three, (that lies south of the Arkansas River), in township number one north of the base, range number twelve west of the fifth principal meridian:

Take notice, that I, the undersigned, William Russell, have a prior and better right and claim to and for the aforesaid lands, that any pretence of claim set up by you, or any others concerned or interested with you, in the locations of New Madrid Certificates upon a part or the whole of the lands aforesaid, my claim to the same being founded upon improvements, and Pre-emption rights situate thereon, and covering the whole of the same. Which Pre-emption claims I purchased from the Widow Martha White, Peter Franks, William Lewis, Edmund Hogan, and others: Therefore I will not pay for any improvements made or caused to be made by you or any other persons upon any part of said lands; and I will claim damages for the trespasses committed by you and others thereon.

And I hereby give notice to all Surveyors or Deputy Surveyors, of any claims on the lands aforesaid, and forewarn them not to make any survey, or official survey of any New Madrid Certificate upon any part of the lands aforesaid, as I have prior and better claims to the same.

John B. O'Ragan has removed his shop to a house belonging to Mr.
Frederic, a few rods below the residence of Capt. A.P. Spencer, where
he will continue to execute any order in his line of business in the
neatest manner and at the shortest notice.

William Russell vs. Norvell & Roane
Territory and County of Arkansas

By virtue of an Execution directed to the Sheriff's of this county,
will be sold on Tuesday the 4th day of July next, at the court-house
door, in the township of Arkansas, all the right and title of Joshua
Norvell and Sam C. Roane to Lot No. 1 and Lot No. 2 in the town of
Rome, in the county of Arkansas, to satisfy the debt, interest, and
costs in the above suit.

N.B. Sale to commence at 12 o'clock, while the Circuit Court is sitting.

William Russell vs. William P.S. Blair
Territory and County of Arkansas

By virtue of an Execution directed to the Sheriff of this county, will be
sold on Tuesday, the 4th day of July next at the court - house door, in
the township of Arkansas, all the right, title, and interest of William P.S.
Blair to one acre of land situated in the town of Rome, in the County
of Arkansas, formerly owned by Peter Jerdilow. Also, all the right,
title, and interest said Blair had on the 24th day of August 1819 to
Lot No. 27 and fractional Lot No. 19, in the said town of Rome, to
satisfy the debt, interest, and costs in the above suit.

N.B. Sale to commence at 12 o'clock, while the court is sitting.

United States vs Thomas Dickerson
Territory and County of Arkansas

By virtue of an Execution directed to the Sheriff of this county, will
be sold, on Tuesday the 4th day of July next, it being the 21 day
of our Circuit Court, all the right, title, and interest of Thomas
Dickerson to 300 acres of land situated in the Township of Arkansas,
and on the Arkansas River, known by the name of Old River, to satisfy
the costs in the above suit.

N.B. Sale to commence at 12 o'clock, while the court is sitting.
