01/20/1821 Died ---- In this place, on Thursday evening last, 18th inst. at the house of Hon. Andrew Scott, of an inflammation of the lungs, Doctor William I. Orr, aged 32. --- Dr. Orr was a native of Christian County, Kentucky, but has been a resident of this place for the last eighteen months. He was universally esteemed, and his loss is deeply regretted, by all who knew him.

01/20/1821 Drowned --- On the 12th inst. in the Arkansas river, about 20 miles above this place, Mr. Jabez Ricker, aged 25. He was ascending the river, in a keel-boat, on his way to Fort Smith; and about 12 o'clock of the fatal day, was observed going out of the cabin, in the act of winding up his watch, when it is supposed he must have stumbled on the running-board, and fell backward into the river. He immediately called for help, and made every exertion to save himself but without success; there were about a dozen persons present when he sunk the last time, yet none of them were able to reach him a helping hand until it was too late. His body was found about four hours afterwards, and, on Saturday, decently interred at the plantation of Major Bartley Harrington.

Mr. Ricker was a native of Portland (Maine) but for a few years past has been a resident of Clermont County (O.) where his parents, and some other relatives, reside. He had been a resident of this place only a few weeks previous to the fatal accident which has terminated his existence; but his uniform upright and correct deportment, had gained him the friendship and esteem of all who were acquainted with him.
