07/14/1821 Penalties of Flirtation - Two verdicts have recently been given for breach of promise of marriage; one in the state of New Jersey of 500 dollars and the other in Poughkeepsie of 800 dollars; and to our mortification, we have to announce that the delinquents in both cases, were of the male sex. If the late frequent occurrence of the these cases proves the fickleness of the gentlemen, they may in turn claim the merit of not enforcing the penalties of coquetry against the inconstant fair. Perhaps the ladies are not aware that they may incur the same premunire as ourselves, and are not at liberty to break hearts and disappoint dreams of golden happiness with impunity. Let them, therefore, take warning by the examples before them, lest some rejected swain with as little delicacy as the fair plaintiffs in the above cases, unveil the mysteries of courtship before a court of justice and reap some solid consolation for the loss of a frail heart or anticipated wealth.

07/28/1821 We understand that Thomas P. Eskridge, Esq. has resigned his appointment as Commissioner on the part of this Territory to run the Choctaw boundary line, and that William Woodward, Esq. of Hempstead County, has been appointed in his stead.
