THE UNIVERSAL EPITAPH
No flattering praises daub my stone,
My frailties and my faults to hide;
My faults and failings all are known---
I lived in sin --- in sin I died!
And O, condemn me not, I pray,
You who my sad confession view;
But ask your soul if it can say,
That I'm a viler man than you.

Ginger Beer
To every gallon of spring water add one ounce of sliced white ginger,
one pound of common loaf sugar, and two ounces of lemon juice; boil the
mixture nearly an hour, and take off the scum; then run it through a
hair sieve into a tub, and when cool (viz. at 70 degrees) add yeast in
the proportion of half a pint to nine gallons; keep it in a temperate
situation two days, during which it may be stirred six or eight times;
then put it into a cask, which must be kept full, and the yeast taken
off at the bung hole with a spoon. In a fortnight, add half a pint of
fining (singlass picked and steeped in beer) to nine gallons, which
will, if it has been properly fermented, clear by ascent. -- - The cask
must be kept full, and the rising particles taken off at the bung hole.
When hoe (which may be expected in twenty - four hours) bottle it, cork
it well, and in summer it will be ripe and fit to drink in a fortnight.

We are indebted to the attention of a friend in New Orleans, for a
file of the "Louisiana Advertiser" to the 26th ult. which we received
through the politeness of Col. Nicks, who came passenger in the
Florence. These papers are barren of news. The only interesting article
we find, is the Prices Current, which is inserted in a subsequent
column.
