04/05/1825 ADMINISTRATOR'S NOTICE

THE public is hereby notified, that some time in the month of September, of the year 1824, there came to the house of the subscriber, living on the Mississippi river, about twenty-miles above the mouth of White River, in the county of Arkansas and Territory of Arkansas, a man by the name of CONSTANT ROBERTS, in a state of great bodily infirmity, so much so, that I did not ascertain his place of nativity, nor can I give any thing like a correct description of his person. He remained at my house ten or twelve days when he died intestate, leaving property, in money, goods, notes, and accounts, to the appraised value of nineteen hundred dollars. On the first of November, 1824, Letters of Administration were granted to the subscriber, by the Clerk of the Circuit Court of the county of Arkansas, in vacation, and confirmed by said Court at the last 3 annual term. Any person having demands against said estate, are requested to present them, properly authenticated, for settlement; and all persons indebted to the same, are required to call and pay their respective debts.

Dated at Arkansas, this 23d of March 1825,

04/12/1825 "All for love" - We learn, by a gentlemen from Batesville, that a DUEL
was fought, at or near that place, a few days since, between two Colored
Gentlemen, one belonging to Col. --- of Crawford County, and the other
to a gentleman of Batesville, in which the former was severely, though
not dangerously, wounded. We forbear to mention the names of the
combatants, as we understand the farther effusion of blood has been
happily stayed by the timely mandate of their respective masters and
that a reconciliation was likely to take place between the parties, through
the mediation of their mutual friends.

This "affair", we understand, originated in consequence of a rivalship
between the two parties, in which on of the fair sex was concerned.

New Governor of Arkansas - Official information is received of the appointment, by the President of the United States, with the advice and consent of the Senate, of Gen. George Izard, of Philadelphia, (formerly of the Army of the U.S.) to be Governor of the Territory of Arkansas, in the room of Gen. James Miller, resigned.

By a gentleman who arrived here last week, direct from Washington City, we learn, that Gen. Izard was to join Mr. Conway, (Delegate to Congress) at Louisville in eight days after our informant left there, and that they would both proceed, without delay, to the Territory. He may therefore be expected here in the course of a few days to enter on the duties of his office.

04/26/1825 STRAYED OR STOLEN

FROM the subscriber, some time in December last, a bright sorrel HORSE, about 15 hands high, light made, a natural trotter, and light main and tail; has a white stripe in his face, which is wider on the nostrils than above; both hind feet, and one if not both of his fore feet, white; is six years old this spring, and is branded on the near shoulder and buttock thus, 2C or thus, C2.

He was last seen (some time in January last) in the range on the south side of the Arkansas, below the mouth of Fourche, and, if not stolen is probably still running in that quarter, or in the vicinity of some of the Quapaw villages below. He was brought from Hempstead County and may possibly have returned there.

Any persons taking up said horse, and returning him to me, or giving me information so that I can get him again, shall be handsomely rewarded.
