in which he maintained a respectable rank. He was a young man of very
studious and temperate habits, sedulously avoiding every thing like
dissipation, and died deeply lamented by all who knew him.

11/14/1826 $20 REWARD

RAN away from the plantation of the subscriber on the 1st instant, a negro man named Phill, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, yellow complexion, slender made, rather knock-kneed, turns out his toes when walking, branded on both cheeks, an S on one and a C on the other, also marked with notches or slits on both ears; had an iron on his neck and one on his leg when he went off. 11/14/1826 DIED - At his residence at Cantonment Towson, after a long and painful illness, on the 29th ult. William Bradford, Brigadier General of the Militia of the Territory of Arkansas, and Suttler to the above post, aged about 55 years.

Gen. Bradford was for many years a Captain in the U.S. Army, and distinguished himself during the late war, and in the Indian Wars in the South, under Gen. Jackson, as a brave and intrepid officer; and on one occasion, received a severe wound in the body, which has proved a painful and serious inconvenience to him during the subsequent part of his life. He was for several years Commanding Officer at Fort Smith, where he remained until the garrison of that post was increased by the force under Col. Arbuckle, when he was appointed to the rank of Major by brevet, shortly after which he resigned his commission in the Army, with the intention of returning to the walks of private life.

Few men have been more actively or more usefully employed during their lives, and few have died more universally regretted by a large circle of acquaintances, than Gen. Bradford.
11/14/1826 DIED - In the vicinity of this place, on Tuesday night last, Henry Armstrong, an infant son of George W. Scott, Esq. Auditor of this Territory.

11/21/1826 A RUNAWAY

ABSCONDED from Crawford County, in the spring of 1826, indebted to the subscriber in the sum of Two Hundred and Nineteen Dollars, a certain man named JOHN COLLEY.

He is rather chunky made, quick motioned, walks a little stooped, round shouldered, low necked, has large white eyes, a long nose, long under-lip, sells a tolerable good anecdote, sings a very good song, and tops a bowl with considerable grace.

All persons knowing of such unprincipled characters living in any country in like manner, would do considerable favor to the public, to put them in the public prints. Our county has been very much infested with such devils, but it is to be hoped that it is pretty well rid of them, as there has a great many left it within the last nine months.

Robert Burton
Crawford County, November 10, 1826

11/21/1826 SALE OF LOTS
In the
TOWN OF WASHINGTON,
Seat of Justice of Hempstead County, A.T.

The rapid increase of the population of the Town of Washington, has induced the Trustees to throw a few more Lots into market, at the next January term of the Hempstead Circuit Court, ( which commences on Monday, the 15th of January next, ) when they will offer, on the first and second days of said term, at Public Auction, on the premises, about thirty of the most valuable LOTS in the Town of Washington, on a credit of six and twelve months.

The title papers for the Town of Washington being now in the possession of the Trustees, will remove all doubts as to the title of said property, and the permanency of the location of the Seat of Justice for Hempstead County.

The pleasant and healthy situation of the Town - the fertile lands that surround it - the convenience of navigation - and the improvement of roads from the head of steam-boat navigation - offer sufficient inducements to men of capital and enterprise, to become permanent citizens of this Town and its vicinity.

A complete Map of the Town will be exhibited on the day of the Sale.
