10/03/1826 ADMINISTRATOR'S NOTICE

THE undersigned, Administratrix of the estate of William Ramsey, late of the County of Independence, in the Territory of Arkansas, deceased, having obtained, on the 29th August, 1826, from the Clerk of the Circuit Court of said county, Letters of Administration on said estate, hereby gives notice to all persons having demands against said estate, to present them, properly authenticated, for settlement, within one year from the date of said Letters of Administration, or they may be precluded from receiving any benefit of said estate; and if said claims be not presented within five years, they will be forever barred.

All persons indebted to said estate, are requested to make immediate payment.

10/03/1826 NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN,

THAT I, intend to apply, by petition, to the Judge of the Circuit Court for the county of Arkansas, Territory of Arkansas, at the next term of the Circuit Court of said county, to be holden on the third Monday of November next, for an order of sale of the real estate of John Kepler, deceased, or so much thereof (if there be sufficient) as will be necessary to pay the debts of said estate. Those who have claims against said estate, are requested to give me notice thereof ten days previous to the next term of said court, and present their accounts for allowance.

Trial for Murder

 

We are indebted to a gentleman of the bar, who was employed in the suits, for the following Report of the trials, before the Superior Court of this Territory, of Jesse Jeffery jun., Daniel Jeffery, and James Jeffery, sen. (the father of the two former) on an indictment for the murder of Wm. Henderson of Lawrence county.

10/10/1826 LONG PRAIRIE JOCKY CLUB
RACE FOR COTTON

ON the second Thursday of November next, (the 9th day), there will run on the Long Prairie Turf, in Hempstead County, a COTTON RACE - one mile and repeat - entrance seventeen hundred weight of seed Cotton - free for any horse, mare, or gelding, now owned in the Territory of Arkansas. Entrance kept open until the day of the race.

10/17/1826 $500 REWARD

BROKE jail, on the night of the 26th September, the following prisoners:

FRENCH STROTHER, under indictment for murder. French Strother is about 24 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, brown hair, light complexion, blue eyes, somewhat near-sighted, and of a taciturn? disposition. His father resides in Scott County, in this state, who I have strong reason for believing, aided his son in breaking the jail and making his escape. The above reward of $500 will be guaranteed for the apprehension and delivery of the said French Strother.

Also - JOHN BREWER, under sentence for perjury. Brewer is nearly six feet high, about forty years of age, brown hair, dark eyes, rather dark complexion, has a scar on his cheek, and has lost a part of one of his ears. I will guarantee $200 to any person, who will apprehend and deliver the said John Brewer to me.

Also - Patrick Soye, under sentence for manslaughter, and Irishman by birth, about thirty-five years of age, light hair, blue eyes, coarse features, and marked by the small pox, is stout built, and fond of drink, and is about five feet seven inch high. A reward of $200 will also be give for said Soye.

10/17/1826 CHEROKEE NATION,
SPADRIE BLUFF, September 28th, 1826

Whereas, it has been represented to the undersigned, that sundry persons in Arkansas Territory, and others within the Cherokee Nation, have been endeavoring to purchase, traffic for, or procure under color of legal process, certain NEGRO SLAVES, the rightful property of the heirs and legatees of a Cherokee called Coneetoo, deceased; and whereas the undersigned has been duly appointed Agent and Attorney in fact of said heirs, now this is to forewarn all persons whatsoever, from purchasing, trafficing for, receiving, or procuring in any manner, or under any pretence, any of said negro slaves. They are now, or recently were with, or in possession of the following named persons, to wit: -
With Thomas Graves (a Cherokee) James, Teany, Silvey, and two children (names unknown) - with a Cherokee named John Leake, Anney and three children (names unknown) - With the Widow Otter ( A Cherokee woman), Easter and two children (names unknown) - with Major Jolly, principal chief of the Cherokees, (a Cherokee) one girl (name unknown); and with William Marshall, an Indian trader, near the Delaware Village, one man, named Jacob.

10/17/1826 SALT-WORKS FOR SALE

THE subscriber, wishing to remove to the east of the Mississippi river, offers for sale his SALT-WORKS, situate on the bank of the Illinois bayou, twelve miles from the Arkansas River, in Crawford County, (Ark. Territory) Said Salt-Works are in good order; the furnace consists of thirty-four kettles, with a good shed salt house, cabins, &c. and some cleared land. The salt water is conveyed from the spring to the furnace in troughs. The present lease for the above mentioned Salt-Works will expire in the month of August 1828.

A farther description of the above property is deemed unnecessary, as it is presumed that those inclined to purchase will call and examine the premises, which they are invited to do. The subscriber being anxious to remove, offers a great bargain to any person wishing to purchase, and will take the greater part of the pay in salt.

For terms, apply to the subscriber, at the above mentioned Salt Works.

10/31/1826 DISSOLUTION OF CO-PARTNERSHIP

THE co-partnership heretofore existing between the subscribers, in this day dissolved, by mutual consent. All persons indebted to the late firm of Brown & Graham, will settle with Jesse Brown, he being the only person authorized to settle the same; and all persons having demands against the firm, will present their accounts to him, for settlement.
