By the steam Cinderella, arrived yesterday, we have dates from
Louisville, to the 27th of May, inclusive. There was quite a flood
in the Ohio. The Maysville Eagle of the 20th says - "On Wednesday
evening, the Ohio river commenced rising, and rose, within the
succeeding twenty-four hours, about 24 feet! It had risen
altogether, up to the time when this paper went to press, about 30
or 35 feet. |

STRAY HORSES TAKEN UP,
State of Arkansas,

Caroline Township,
PURSUANT to an order, to us directed, we have this day viewed two
stray horses, shown to us by Stephen Sanders, and do find the same
to be of the following description, viz: one Iron grey, sixteen
hands high, seven years old; no brands perceivable; and by us
appraised to eighty dollars.
The other a bright sorrel, fifteen hands high, five years old, two
white spots in his forehead, branded on the off thigh thus, * ; and
by us appraised to fifty dollars.
Given under our hands, this 8th day of May, 1837.

Ran away, on the 29th day of May, 1837, a negro man named
EDMUND, about twenty-three years old, about 5 feet 9 or 10 inches
high, stout made, dark complexion. He is very quick-spoken when
addressed by any person, had on a large yarn hunting shirt. When he
left me, he carried of a large rifle gun, plain stock, leather shot
pouch. He, in all probability will aim for Monroe county, State of
Mississippi and has passed through Little Rock and Memphis,
Tennessee.
Any person will be liberally rewarded by me who will deliver said
negro to me, or confine him in some jail so I can get him, or give
me information that will lead me to the recovery of said negro. My
residence is about five miles east of Hickman's Salt Works, in
Sevier county.

RECEIVED on board the steam boat Neosho, in the fall of 1835, 1
box of Goods, consisting of Silks, Towels, ready made Stocks, 2
dresses, one white, the other common Calico, and sundry other
articles. From an examination of said goods we suppose they belong
to a Milliner Lady. Three or four pamphlets marked Ellen Vandivier.
Mark of box, P.A.U., mark on the towels, P.A.C.
The owner will please prove property, pays charges, and take charge
of same. The said box is in charge of Pitcher & Walters, Little
Rock.
St. Louis Republican, Louisville Advertiser, and Cincinnati Gazette,
will publish the above weekly for one month, and send their accounts
to this office for collection. |

ATTACHMENT
THIS day came the plaintiff, by his attorney, Royston; and the
plaintiff having filed his declaration herein, and it appearing to
the court here that said plaintiff has sued out his attachment from
Birkett D. Jett, justice of the peace for the county of Hempstead,
returnable into this court, for the sum of seventy-six dollars,
founded on a note in writing, and that the said attachment has been
levied on a small wagon of carryall of the said defendant's; and the
said David Rodman having failed to appear, by himself or attorney,
according to law, and the rules and practices of this court.
Therefore, on motion of said plaintiff, it is decreed, that unless
the said David Rodman shall appear, by himself or attorney, and file
special bail to the plaintiffs' action, on or before the third day
of the next term of this court, judgment will be entered against
him, and his estate sold to satisfy the same; and it is farther
ordered, that a copy of this order be inserted for four successive
weeks in the Arkansas State Gazette, at last four weeks previous to
the first day of the next term of this court, until which time this
cause is continued.

STRAY HORSE TAKEN UP,
We, Joseph W. Spivey, G. Dunn, and G. Sneed, having viewed a stray
horse shown to us by Edmund Caviness, Washington county, Arkansas,
and find the same to be a bay horse, four years old this spring,
fourteen hands one inch high, left hind foot white, some white in
his forehead, snip nose, some saddle spots; appraised by us to forty
dollars. This 11th day of March 1837.

TOWN OF ATHENS,
THE Commissioners for the county of Izard, in the State of Arkansas,
having permanently located, and laid off into Town Lots, Athens, the
Seat of Justice for said county, (at Asa McFelch's saw-mills, on
Pine Bayou), will offer for sale, to the highest bidder, at PUBLIC
AUCTION, said TOWN LOTS, on liberal terms, which will be made known
on the day of sale, which will take place on Thursday, the 10th day
August next, at Athens.
The Town of Athens is beautifully situated near the head of large
keel-boat navigation, at the junction of Pine Bayou with White
river, about forty miles west of Batesville. Mechanics and others,
wishing a favorable situation, and handsome wages for labor, will do
well to attend the sale, and examine for themselves. Capitalists
also, will here meet with handsome encouragement. Due attendance
will be given by us.

TOWN OF MANCHESTER
THE Proprietors of the Town of Manchester, in the county of Clark,
Arkansas, will offer at PUBLIC SALE, on the Town site, on Tuesday,
the 4th day of July next, a number of LOTS in said Town.
Manchester is situated on the Washita River, near the head of
navigation, on a high and beautiful bluff, at a place heretofore
known as "Mabill's Bluffs." The surrounding country is extremely
fertile and healthy, and is now fast settling by first rate
citizens.
The proprietors deem it unnecessary to say anything farther in
relation to its peculiar advantages and future prospects, as they
will readily present themselves to anyone who will examine its
locality.

WRECK AND SALVAGE
To all whom it may concern:
WHEREAS, the undersigned, Noah H. Badgett, on the 16th day of May,
A.D. 1837, completed his labors in rescuing and saving divers
articles of goods, wares, and merchandize, from the wreck of the
steam boat Compromise, which boat was found wrecked and bilged in
the Arkansas river, about fifteen miles below the city of Little
Rock, in the county of Pulaski, and State of Arkansas, with her keel
uppermost, and abandoned by the master and crew thereof; and the
said goods, wares, and merchandize, were obtained by cutting through
the bottom of the hull of said boat, and saved with the aid of the
servants of the undersigned, with great labor and expense of time;
and the undersigned has made information and report, in due form of
law, of the said wreck and salvage, to Jesse Brown, Esq., an acting
Justice of the Peace in and for the county aforesaid, and obtained,
from the said Justice of the Peace, an order for the appraisement
and valuation of the goods, wares, and merchandize, so saved as
aforesaid, directed to three house holders of the said county, as
the law directs; which said appraisement is as follows:

the same, according to the statues of this State in such cases
provided.
