Building #2. J. C.
Hill had a store in this building until about 1945.
David Mitchell returned from World War II and bought the store from Mr.
Hill. Probably in the early 50s, Mr. Mitchell was appointed postmaster
and the post office was located in his store. The post office remained
in
this building until about 1991. Mr. Mitchell retired as postmaster in
the
late 70s and Mattie Lou Crawford followed by Crit Caldwell served as
postmaster while the post office was located in Mr. Mitchell's store.
Mr.
Mitchell continued running his store until about 1995 when he closed it
down. As you can tell by the pumps in front, he also sold gas which was
common for country stores back then. This building was probably built in
the late 1800s. - James McJunkin
