Batesville, Arkansas is centrally
located in Independence County, on the main line of the White River
Division of the Missouri Pacific Railway and on the north bank of
White River, one hundred and fourteen miles northeast of Little
Rock, the state capital. It is high, dry, and healthful and has
natural drainage and has between five and six thousand of the people
on earth living within her corporate limits.
Her wealth will compare favorably with cities of greater population.
Health here is unsurpassed. Residence modern and expensive. More
than twenty miles of concrete sidewalks. Several sewer districts
already built and in operation. Municipally owned water works and
electric light plant. Three strong banks with large capital and
surplus and deposits of more than two millions. Will have before
another summer more than seven miles of paved streets.
Four large and commodious school buildings with twenty-seven of the
best teachers that can be had. An enrollment of 1,280 on May 30,
1919.
Modern and up-to-date churchs - two Methodist, three Baptist, one
Presbyterian, one Episcopal, one Catholic, one Christian for white
people, three colored churches.
The State Masonic Home and School, maintained by various Masonic
bodies, and the State Odd Fellows Widows' and Orphans' Home,
maintained by various lodges of the state.
Batesville has the largest tight barrel stave and heading factory in
the state, a hub mill, excelsior plant, lawn and porch swing
factory, flour and feed mill, ice and cold storage plant, ice cream
factory, bottling works, and numerous other industries. One daily
and two weekly newspapers, five garages and repair shops, etc. A new
and modern $15,000 passenger station. Batesville has recently build
a large cotton compress.
If, during this readjustment period, you fail to grasp some of the
opportunities in and around Batesville, Arkansas it will be because
you have overlooked the best town, in the best county, in the best
state, in the best country under the sun. No other locality offers a
greater variety or choice of natural resources.
You can engage in farming, stock raising, dairying, mining manganese
ore, phosphate, tripoli, etc., quarry marble, sandstone or limestone
for building purposes, marble for monumental purposes, limestone for
lime or fertilizer, manufacturing, our raw materials, such as
cotton, timber, glass sand, etc., into the finished product, or do a

Arkansas College
The oldest chartered educational institution in the state, was
founded in 1872, and has a beautiful and central location in
Batesville. Her alumni have won recognition and prominence in varied
walks of life. Their lives tell, because they are well prepared.
With multiplied income, larger faculty and greatly improved
equipment, she now invites for well rounded preparation, fine
leadership and service, the young men and women of Arkansas and
neighboring states.

science and expression departments.
