Captain Fred Paul navigated the White River from 1910
until 1958. He piloted this boat from 1940 to 1958. When returning to
port, he would blow the whistle as he passed near his home to let his
wife, Clover, know he would soon be home. |

Captain Claude Ashmore piloted this boat from 1961
until 1967. Interviewed in 2000, he recalls the pleasures and challenges
of his seven years behind the wheel of the Mary Wood No. 2, where he
had, as he says, "some close calls and some smooth sailing." |
