Charley and Nora Elizabeth (West) Weathers

On April 3, 1902, Charley Weathers married Nora Elizabeth West.  Nora and Charley moved to the Coal Hill bottoms (Cottonwood) and stayed about a year then moved back to Coal Hill. They moved in a little house on the hill, at the north

end of main-street about ¼ mile north of the highway. They lived there until about 1906. Charley worked in the mines several miles away toward Alix. The name of the mine was "Pocket and Rafters". The winters were very rough and Charley had to walk to work. Sometimes Charley would stay with friends near the mine or sleep on a cot at the mines. Sometimes Charley couldn’t get home for days at a time. Nora was there with her little girl and expecting another.

After Charley got married and moved out Vina was alone again. Vina got sick in 1906 and Charley and Nora moved back in with her. They never moved out of the old Weathers house after that. They took care of Vina until she died.

Charley and Nora had five children:

Celia Pearl Weathers born June 1, 1903

Claude "Ted" Weathers born May 17, 1905

Harold Eugene Weathers born June 19, 1907

George Woodrow Weathers born May 28, 1909

Charles Earnest "Pert" Weathers born December 16, 1911

When Woodrow was born, Charley gave the doctor a horse drawn cultivator for delivering him. Nora wanted to

name him George Westley after her father and Vina wanted to name him Joshua after her brother. Woodrow’s name was

George until he was five years old, then he named himself George Woodrow.
