MY DEAR MARTHA
A 14th
Texas Infantry Private Writes About Life During
The War Between
the States
1863-1865
The
letters written by James Harvey Armstrong during the War Between the States have
been compiled in book form. There are twenty-six letters written by J. H.
Armstrong to his wife and one letter written by Martha Coppedge, his wife, to
him. Research has been done on all the people mentioned in the letters that it
was possible to find information about. Battles mentioned have been described;
men who were wounded or died while in the 14th infantry are listed
along with place and date of death or wounds; political events mentioned have
been detailed; maps are included showing places mentioned and location of
battles; pictures of Camp Nelson Cemetery, family photos; photo of Armstrong
family home, and other events are pictured; and words to two songs sent home by
Armstrong are all included. There is a complete index and bibliography.
Even though
some of these letters were published previously, this book gives many details
about people and events that have never been researched before in connection
with the letters. If you have an interest in the 14th Texas
Infantry, this book is a “must” to know what the men lived through during the
Red River Campaign in Louisiana and Arkansas. Of course, if you are a member
of the Armstrong or Coppedge family, the book will be of great interest to you.
The book is
8/12 by 11, soft back and is spiral bound. The cost is $25.00
including postage.
