Lonoke County, Arkansas

Rice Field Irrigation Well

Carlisle is located thirty-two miles east of Little Rock, on the Rock Island R.R., and is at the north end of what is called Grand Prairie. It is also located on the Bankhead Highway, running from Washington, D.C. to Los Angeles, Cal. The town has approximately 1,500 people, brick high school building, four churches, four business blocks.

Dairy
The dairy industry is the first venture to be attempted at Carlisle. In the year 1889, the first creamery was erected and ever since that time there have been in operation from one to three creameries. The dairies consist mostly of Holstein, Guernsey, Jersey, and Red Polls. Carlisle is one of the best points in the state for dairying, being located only thirty-two miles east of Little Rock and ninety miles from Hot Springs, the two places taking all of the product. The prices average among the best in the United States.
