Smithsonian Explorations - Smithsonian archaeologists  once explored prehistoric mounds near Toltec on property originally entered for Gen. Andrew Jackson.  In 1895, the property was owned by Mrs. Mary Eliza Field Knapp.  Mounds ranging from six to 80 feet high in a 90-acre enclosure were surrounded by a 10-foot levee and bordered "Lake Mound," two and half miles long and one-half mile wide.
