John Kennedy

Medal of Honor - Civil War

U.S.A. - Ord. SGT

2nd U.S. Artillery - Co. M

Born in Ireland May 14, 1834.  Died September 28, 1910.

On June 11, 1864, at Trevilian Station, Virginia, Mr. Kennedy remained at his gun, resisting with its implements the advancing cavalry and thus secured the retreat of his detachment.

Editor's Note: I wondered why Mr. Kennedy was not listed as an Arkansas Medal of Honor recipient  and contacted Stephan McAteer at the MacArthur Military Museum.  Mr. McAteer researched this and found Mr. Kennedy's Medal of Honor is officially credited to the State of New York.
