My
g-g-grandfather James A. Pate bought the old Sandlin homestead,
which
was located in
the small town of Silver, (town is no longer there) from
the Sandlin's
about 1909.
Before moving into the home, they tore it down, numbered the logs,
cleaned them
and then put it back together again. Originally a dogtrot house, it
was remodeled into the house you see now. The Pate family
lived in it for many
years and in 1953 or 54 James's youngest daughter, Susie, and her
husband, Arthur
Wright, bought it and remodeled it. They added the second
floor on top of the
dog trot log home. These pictures were taken after the
remodel.
There was an old school house near by and the
school bell
was kept when the school house was burned or torn down.
