Erbie Campground

Newton County, Arkansas

Before a recent camping trip to Jasper, I looked and looked for pictures showing the campground at Erbie. I found one or two but nothing very descriptive. I am posting these here for the benefit of anyone that wants to camp at Erbie and looking for inside info.

These are the restrooms.  From November to March the campground is free but with very limited facilities.  At the first restroom we stopped at the sign read "Closed, used ROM restroom."  At the second restroom we stopped at the sign read "Closed, used the outhouse on the hill."  :)  I am not sure if this was a joke or what...we never saw an "outhouse,"  but the third restroom we came to was open.  There was no sink to wash your hands and no locks to lock the door, just an outhouse type toilet.  For all the trouble getting to it, peeing in the woods seemed to be the better option.

This is one campsite for a group.

We went because all the advertisements stated the campground was adjacent to the Buffalo River.  While this is true, you can't actually see the river from the campground.

Each campsite is somewhat surrounded by shrubbery or bamboo creating a sense of privacy.  The water pumps were locked for the winter.  It is about 200 yards through the shrubbery to the River.

The river was very low.
