This fountain celebrates our cities most cherished resources:
water. Founded on the Mississippi River, Memphis has an artesian
well system which provides pure drinking water and helps to
sustain the city's growth.
Until 1887, Memphis drew most of its water from cisterns and the
Wolf River. On March 18, 1887, drillers tapped artesian wells
beneath the city: the Artesian Water Company was formed. In
1893, Memphis bought the company to form the Memphis American
Water Department, the first city-owned utility and forerunner to
Memphis Light, Gas & Water. April 1993.

Sweetie playing in the water fountains. We
should have taken off our shoes and ran under the fountains!
