West Helena
On this former plantation site June 20th, 1910, two cousins, Edward Chaffin
Hornor and John Sidney Hornor with infinite foresight, founded the town of West
Helena. They built an electric railway connecting it with Helena and unusual for
the time, also built a water plant and sewerage system which added impetus to
future residential growth. West Helena was incorporated as a city June 15, 1917.
The location and construction of two railroads through the town provided a firm
foundation for the City's industrial expansion.
