These mines are located within
two miles of the flourishing town of Murfreesboro,in Pike County,
which with a few surrounding counties constitute a very interesting
triangular area. In this limited area is found a great diversity of
geologic conditions than any other portion of the United States and
consequently, a greater diversity of soils and of agricultural and
mineralogic conditions.
There are two wel defined pipes in the lower diamond field. A modern
washing plant is in operation on the Ozark Mining Company's property
which cost $20,000 or more. It is in operation and many diamonds
have been recovered, some of them large size and very valuable. The
Arkansas Diamond Mining and Washing Company is operation a splendid
washing plant on Prairie Creek, one mile and half south of town.
This company owns two valuable, proven diamond properties and the
new plant will concentrate the kimberlite from these mines and
recover the diamonds which it contains.
The largest diamond found to date of 1919 weighs 17.83 carats. |
