Janssen City Park
Mena, Polk County, Arkansas
History of Janssen Park
Notes from editor: Rand McNally
stated in their 2007 Road Atlas that there was a Revolutionary Cannon
located at this park. We found two civil war cannons and a World
War II? Gun. Also, the National Register states that this park is
listed because it was founded in 1850, however, a history for the parks
reads 1903. The cabin is said to have been built around 1851 by
William Shelton and was at one time the city hall. Four (4) city
blocks were donated by Arthur Stillwell in 1906 for use as a park.
It was also featured on Ripley's Believe It or Not television show.
