Current
Business:
Strong winds
have done considerable damage at the cemetery.
-
Two (2) large
cedar trees were blown down breaking two (2) tombstones.
-
Many flower
arrangements were also blown off the graves ending up along the east
fence.
-
A large
portion of the neighbor’s privacy fencing was blown down. It looks
very unsightly.
-
A few
tombstones were blown off their bases.
The Directors
met on March 20, 2008, and voted to build a privacy fence across most
of the back of the cemetery (east side). The Garvin/Crook families
have donated (4) grave spaces back to the cemetery. These spaces will
be sold and proceeds applied toward the cost of the fence.
An enclosed
bulletin board has been added in the pavilion area. Information will
be posted here regarding regulations, contacts, any spaces for sale,
news regarding the cemetery, etc.
Please remember
the pavilion is available to use for burial services at no charge.
Using the pavilion could possibly be a savings on funeral expenses.
Fire Ants:
Again we must caution everyone about the fire ants. They
mound around and under the tombstones. We have attempted to eliminate
them with little success. Their bite is very painful.
Lawn
Maintenance: We are happy to say that “Southern Landscaping Inc.”
will be doing our mowing and Cemetery care again this year. Thanks to
Melanie and Brian for the super good job last year.
Grave opening
and closing: WJR Service Co. does our grave digging. We wish to
recognize them for their outstanding work and the many other extra
things that they do to keep our Cemetery looking nice. Thank you,
William and Paul Rhodes.
Property
Owners: There are still some owners who have not contacted the
cemetery to update their burial rights. If there have been
changes and you have not notified the Cemetery, please do so
immediately. This will avoid much confusion should it
be necessary to use the property. A copy of your deed is necessary to
prove ownership. This information should be sent to David Brannon, 585
Brown Rd, Lonoke, AR 72086 or phone 501-676-5687.
Cemetery
Spaces for sale: We have a few spaces that have been returned to
the Cemetery available for resale. If you are interested in purchasing
a space, contact Vestal Johnson at 501-988-5161. If you have spaces
that you do not intend to use, please consider donating them back to
the Cemetery. Proceeds from resale go toward improvements, maintenance
and upkeep of the Cemetery.
Flowers:
The Cemetery welcomes the flowers that you place on your loved one’s
graves. It is requested that you place them in such a manner that they
do not impair the mowing and maintenance of the grounds (vases mounted
on the tombstone or saddles on top of the stone). We have had
complaints that flowers are missing from graves. Wind is the primary
reason; the flowers end up along the back fence. If possible, flowers
should be anchored in place. It would also be a help if you would put
your loved one’s name on the flower arrangement, we could then place
it back on the proper grave.
Burial
Regulations: Again, we must remind everyone of the regulations
that were placed in effect for burials after July 1, 2004.
-
Outer
container (burial vault) requirement. (Arrangements made through the
funeral home for the container)
-
Where a
permanent marker (tombstone) is not already in place, a $200 deposit
is required by the Cemetery before a burial can be made. A check is
to be made payable to The Bayou Meto Cemetery Monument Fund and
given to the Funeral Home conducting the service. The funeral home
will then forward the check to our Bank.
To all of our
loyal contributors, we want you to know that your contributions are
very much appreciated. This is your property and probably the resting
place for your ancestors. We must keep it looking nice. The cost of
maintenance increases almost every year. The Cemetery board welcomes
your suggestions and comments. We would like to invite you
to get more involved with the Cemetery. The commissioners all
volunteer their time and perform most of the cleanup work.
