Camp Pike to Camp Robinson
In a memorandum to "All Organizational Commanders" dated April 26, 1938, the
Adjutant General's Department advised "..that the name of Camp Pike, Arkansas,
has been changed to Camp Joseph T. Robinson, Arkansas. This change was made by
General Orders #8, War Department, 1937."
Joseph Taylor Robinson was a Democratic United States Senator, member of the
United States House of Representatives, Governor of Arkansas and U.S.
Vice-President candidate. He was majority leader of the Senate when he died July
14, 1937. It is presumed the name change was requested by the State of Arkansas
but this has not been substantiated.
