History of the Hanger House by Kay Tatum

Hanger House

1889

In 1889 Frances and Frederick Hanger remodeled the existing house to create

one of Little Rock's best examples of the Queen Anne style of Architecture,

which was popular during the 1880's and 1890's.  The asymmetrical plan and

irregular proportions of the Hanger house are typical of the Queen Anne style,

as are the homes many gables an surface textures (clapboard, shingles, stone.)  A

touch of the orient is also is present in the "moon-gate" arch at the top of the steps

leading to the front porch.  The socially prominent Hangers designed their home

for entertaining, incorporating the latest fashions in architecture and interior design.
