Johnson House
The
Johnson House was built about 1877 as the residence of Robert W.
Johnson
and
his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin S. Johnson.
Robert W. Johnson had returned to Little Rock in 1876 after a long
and
distinguished career which included serving in both the House
of
Representatives and the U.S. Senate prior to the Civil War.
During the war,
he
was elected to represent Arkansas in the Confederate
Congress and after the war, he practiced law in Washington, D.C.
until
retiring to Little Rock. Following the elder Johnson's death
in 1879, the
Johnson house continued to serve as the residence of
Benjamin S. Johnson, who was also an attorney. The house
remained
in
the Johnson Family until the 1920's.
