Arkansas Gazette Building

Little Rock, Pulaski County, Arkansas

ca. 1875

This building stood on the southeast corner of Scott and Markham streets and was destroyed by fire in the latter part of December 1875. The Gazette business office and editorial rooms were on the ground floor, east side, while the composing room occupied the entire third floor. The corner room on the ground floor occupied by Triplett & Haas as a saloon. The corner room on the second floor was occupied by Trezevant & Boyle, insurance agents, the firm being owned by J.T. Trezevant, a prominent citizen of Dallas, Texas., and the late John F. Boyle. Among other occupants of this floor was the late Maj. John D. Adams, whose private offices were over the Gazette editorial rooms. The Western Union Telegraph Company's quarters were next door, in the old Ashley mansion two-story building, erected in the place of the one that was burned, was occupied by the Gazette for a number of years, until it removed to 113 - 115 East Main street.
