Leslie, Searcy County, Arkansas

Leslie is situated in Searcy County. Searcy County is the second county from the Missouri line, and the fourth county from the Oklahoma line. It is on the Missouri & North Arkansas Railroad, and is a busy little city with a population of about 2500 honest, industrious people, with numerous stores, a good, strong bank, a good newspaper, $20,000 dollar school building, four good churches, telephone exchange, electric light plant, the best depot on this road, and is the metropolitan city of the county. It has the largest number of car shipments of any other city on this road. The in and out shipments combined run over 500 carloads per month. We have numerous other enterprises, and have a residence section of beautiful and well kept homes. Our market for farm produce is already established, and we are within easy shipping distance of St. Louis, Kansas City, Memphis, Little Rock and numerous other good cities. We have the largest cooperage plant, operated by the Export Cooperage Company, that can be found west of the Mississippi River. They employ a great number of men, and have a semi-monthly pay roll that run high up in the thousands. They have a private railroad running seventeen miles in the country to the southwest. We have also four other large stave manufacturing plants, and a large hub manufacturing plant owned and operated by the Mays Manufacturing Co. We also have a wholesale grocery house, and one of the largest canning establishments in the country.

We have the best water that can be found; pure, clear, and cold. Fine springs on almost every 160 acres of land in county. We wish to impress that we are right in the heart of the Ozarks, and enjoy health and other luxuries that can be found in any mountain country. Leslie is located in one of the best farming sections of Arkansas, and is surrounded by a large number of country towns which are off the railroad, and enables it to draw trade for a distance of twenty-five miles, which makes Leslie rank with many larger cities. The citizens are honest and law-abiding business people and are ever ready to do their best for the people. It does not require a great amount of capital to take advantage of the opportunities, as it does in other sections.
