Journey in the past…… A Settler's Diary

Adolphus James Boyd was born May 2, 1860 in Smith County, Mississippi and died in Pulaski County, Arkansas in 1927.  He and his first wife, Sarah Wood had two children, Grover Boyd and Maude (Boyd) Talbert.  After Sarah's death, Boyd married Sallie, and they had two children Horace Boyd and Ina (Boyd) Hammonds. Boyd was taught to read and write by his second wife.

He kept a journal from 1910 to 1926 which has been published here with the permission of his Grand Daughter Gladys (Boyd) Stuckey.  The  journal and all copyrights belong to her.

Mr. Boyd was a deeply religious man and attended church at the Zion Hill Baptist Church. According to Gladys (Boyd) Stuckey, daughter of Grover Boyd, baptisms were held in the creek behind her grandfathers house and he spent many a night sitting up with those who were sick.
