Military Election Notice

Whereas, the Colonel Commandment of each county of the Territory of Arkansas

is required, by law, to divide his Regiment into Battalions and Companies, and

to order an Election to be held, in the respective townships of said county, for

 the purpose of electing the Field and Company Officers of said Regiments:

Therefore, I, Christian Brumback, Colonel Commandant of the Pulaski County,

 Regiment, attached to the First Brigade of the Militia of the Territory of Arkansas,

do hereby make known to the said Regiment, that the said Regiment has been divided

into Battalions and Companies as follows, to wit:

FIRST BATTALION

ALL that portion of the county of Pulaski, situate west or south of a line beginning

at a point where the southern boundary line of Little Red River Township strikes

Conway county, thence west with said township line to its intersection with Bogan’s old road, thence with said road to the Arkansas River, thence down the south margin of said river to the mouth of Fourche Creek, thence with said creek to its intersection with the Quapaw line, thence south with said line to the southern

boundary of Pulaski County, shall belong to, constitute, and compose the First Battalion.

SECOND BATTALION

And all that portion of the county of Pulaski, situate and lying north and east of

the foregoing line, shall belong to, constitute, and compose the Second Battalion.

The First Battalion shall be divided into Companies as follows, to wit:

All that portion of Pyeatt township situate north of the Arkansas River, and west

of Hogan’s old road, leading from the Cross-Roads to Crystal Hill, and south of

the Arkansas River, and west of Pyeatt’s old trace, leading from Pyeatt’s, on the

Arkansas River, south to the county line in the direction of the Warm Springs, and

of one mile east of said line, shall belong to, constitute, and compose, the First

Company of the First Battalion.

Saline township in said county, except such part thereof as shall, by the bounds

aforesaid, be included in the foregoing Company, shall belong to, constitute, and

compose the Second Company of the First Battalion.

All that portion of Big Rock township situate south of the Arkansas River,

bounded on the west by the 1st Company of 1st Battalion, on the north by the

Arkansas River, on the east by Fourche Creek, from the month thereof to its

 intersection with the Quapaw line, and thence south with said line to its intersection

with the boundary line of 2d Company of 1st Battalion, or the county lien, shall

belong to, constitute, and compose, the Third Company of the First Battalion.

The Second Battalion shall be divided into Companies as follows, to wit:

Little Red River township shall belong to, constitute, and compose, the First

Company of the Second Battalion.

At that portion of Big Rock and Pyeatt townships, situate north of the Arkansas

River, east of Hogan’s old road, and west or north of a line commencing at the

Arkansas River, where the western boundary line of range ten west strikes said

river, and thence north with said range line until it intersects the Military Road

 leading from Little Rock to Memphis, and thence parallel with, and in the direction

of, said road, and one mile south and east of the same, until said line strikes the

county line, shall belong to, constitute, and compose, the Second Company of the

 Second Battalion

And all that portion of Big Rock township, or Pulaski County, situate north of the

 Arkansas River and cast of the western boundary line of range ten west, and

south, or east of said line, running parallel with the Military Road leading from

Little Rock to Memphis, and all that part lying south of the Arkansas River and

east of the Fourche Creek and Quapaw line, as designated as the eastern boundary

line of the 2d Company of the 1st Battalion, shall belong to, constitute, and compose,

the Third Company of the Second Battalion.

ELECTION OF OFFICERS

Notice is hereby given, that for the purpose of choosing the Field and Company

Officers for said Regiment, an Election will be held, at the usual places of holding

Elections for Civil Officers in the county of Pulaski, on Saturday, the 20th day of

 February next, for the election of the following Field and Company Officers, to wit:

For the 1st Battalion, one Lieutenant Colonel’
For the 2d Battalion, one Major, and
For each Company, one Captain, one First Lieutenant, and one Second Lieutenant.

The First Company of the First Battalion will hold their Election at the house of

Thomas Massengill, in Pyeatt Township - James Pyeatt, Samuel Taylor, and

William P. Thompson, Judges thereof.

The Second Company of the First Battalion will hold their Election at the house

of Valentine Brazell, in Saline Township - Benjamin Williams, Almer Harrell,

and Allen Martin, Judges thereof.

The Third Company of the First Battalion and the Second and Third Companies

of the Second Battalion, will hold their respective Elections at the Court-house

in the Town of Little Rock - Bernard Smith, Nicholas Peay, and David Rorer, Judges

thereof.


The First Company of the Second Battalion will hold their Election at the house

of John Magness, in Little Red River township - John Cook, John Magness,

and James Walker, Judges thereof.

The polls of said Elections will open at 9 o’clock in the fore-noon, and

close at 6 o’clock in the after-noon, of said day; and it is requested that

 the returns thereof be made to the Colonel Commandant without delay.

Regimental Order
Head Quarters
Little Rock, January 25, 1830

Pursuant to a General Order, issued by the Commander-in-Chief of the Militia

of the Territory of Arkansas, on the 21st inst., I do hereby order that all persons

attached to the Regiment of Militia composed of the county of Pulaski meet at

the house of Nicholas Peay, in the Town of Little Rock, on Saturday the 27th day

 of February next, at 10 o’clock in the fore-noon, of said day, completely armed

 and equipped according to law, for the purpose of farther organizing said Regiment.

All persons residing within the limits of said Regiment, having in their possession

 any of the Public Arms belonging to the Territory of Arkansas, are hereby required

 to deliver the same to the Colonel Commandant, on or before the 27th day of

February next. Those who fail to comply with this order, will be subjected to the penalties prescribed by law.
