Flashback to 1916-

FINED UNDER TICK ACT - FARMER PLEADS GUILTY TO VIOLATION OF STATE'S ERADICATION LAW

Clarksville, June 6 - G.E. Bennett, for many years editor of the Lamar Leader, pleaded guilty to a charge of refusing to dip his cattle after he had been ordered to do so. The defendant was fined by Magistrate Vol Howell.  The trial attracted many farmers. Bennett was the first defendant to appear in court charged with violation of the act.  Thirty dipping vats have been constructed in the county and few have refused to comply with the law.

Editor's Note: It would be interesting to know "why" they passed such a law?  Did we have more ticks then than we do now?

If your cemetery has one coming up, drop me a line with the details and I will post it.  Mount Pleasant in Lonoke County is next week.
