Emerald Park

October 6, 2010

Emerald Park is located right next to Burns Park.   To get to it, you follow the river trail next to the boat ramp back towards town.  About a quarter of a mile down the trail, you will see a sign that reads “Emerald Park.”

Up until this point, you are on an asphalt trail.  Once you turn off, you are on a dirt and rock trail.  Good shoes needed….don’t do like I did and wear the wrong shoes, you will pay!

There are about 7 or 8 switchbacks going to the top and it is about a 1 mile trip one way.

As you are getting close to the peak, you will once again hit some asphalt and run into this gazebo.  Give your feet a rest because it doesn’t last long and then you will be back to dirt and rocks.  Also, the trail gets really narrow and over grown and in some points and you will have chain link fence on both sides of the path.

This picture is looking down into the old rock quarry.  Those are actually rocks lined up on the ground.

Looking towards the state capitol.

In conclusion, this is a wonderful place to view wild life.  There were 4 more deer right behind this one.
