He did not find the picture of the sign that Pat Anthony took in
1999. I love how this stuff just walks off. Thanks
David! And here's a link for Pat's
pics...just in case anyone wants to compare.

Seems I am on a roll today.
Short news:
- Linda wrote and reminded me that the
Ada Thompson Home was a place for old ladies.
- Tom wrote and told me that I
incorrectly had the VA Hospital as the State Hospital.
Long News:
Last but not least, I got a bunch of email
today on the old Thomas -
Rector house on Highway 5 at the Saline - Pulaski County
line. Seems, eleven year old Shelby Estell drew quite a bit of
attention last week trying to save the house. Channel 11 did a
news story on it (February 16 -
http://www.todaysthv.com/news/news.aspx?storyid=41793)
and the land developer -
Diamond Development 501-455-2074 (if you want to tell them what you
think) wanted to nip all the publicity in the bud and had it
torn down yesterday. http://www.todaysthv.com/news/news.aspx?storyid=41943
Shelby and her dad, Roy, are now trying to
get the development company to let researchers check the property
for historic artifacts, which I think is a pretty good idea.
Maybe give them say 1 week to check it out. If you can help
them in anyway or you want to
tell Shelby she rocks for an
11 year old, the email address is
rbestell@msn.com
I ran over
there at lunch and
photographed the house,
and of course, they have now put up signs indicating that it is
private property. Such a shame.....but you can bet everything
on Highway 5 will be gone in the 5 years.

if not the most perfectly restored house in downtown Little Rock.

I
will be adding lots of stuff today...at least that's the idea.
:)
First off, Steve Purdue, Curator, at the Saline County Library
emailed me info on the old
house I photographed in Saline County last week. Apparently
the property
belonged to
Henry Rector, one of the early Arkansas Governors. Thorp Thomas,
an
Attorney General candidate also lived in the house.. This is one of those tragic...not
on the National
Register houses that we lose every day.
Ltc.
Leon R. Moore sent me a sketch that was used in a Saline County
historical
pamphlet. I love the attention this house has drawn...too bad
it couldn't be saved.
You can catch the text and pics of the property
here....Rector
- Thomas House & Property.
I
have been checking out blogs lately, so here are some good ones from
people
in Arkansas.

Mark -
Arkansas Geocaching
Steve Nawojczyk and Braye Cloud have some great pictures over at
http://www.arkansaspictures.blogspot.com/
Just on a side note....why do people not label their photographs?
I look at a lot of Arkansas photographs and know exactly where most
places are, but there others that I would love to know what city,
town, county, park, etc?
Added the
Hemingway House here in Little
Rock, Arkansas.
