We are spending millions of dollars to promote tourism in Little Rock, Arkansas & specifically downtown. What does the tourist see when he gets here?  As a tourist, would you want to step around these people? Would you want to smell the urine & feces in the air because they are using the courthouse lawn for the bedroom AND the bathroom?   Do YOU see this & pretend like it's not YOUR problem...cast your eyes away and think....that so sad, I am glad it doesn't affect me?  Well it does, and its time we PLANNED for this instead of pretending like it doesn't exist.

Marcia Wilkinson sent me the correct information on the Crawford & the Ramsey - McClellan Houses in Ouachita County.  Now I just need to get back down there to Camden & El Dorado and take some pictures of those wonderful old houses.  Thanks Marcia!

Carolyn Earle Billingsley sent me a note to let me know that I had the Geographical Center of Arkansas listed in Pulaski County and it actually is located in Saline County.  Thanks Carolyn!

To those of you who read this website often, please don't feel like you are going to offend me by sending corrections or new information.  This website is all about Arkansas and I want it to be as correct as possible.  I am just like anyone else and have my days!  Why just today I was at the Pulaski County Court House at the "Sandwiching in History" Program....and I looked at the wall in front of me and I thought....how strange, I wonder why all those "clocks" have a different time?  Then a few minutes later, a little light bulb went off in my head and I realized they were the "elevator floor indicators" - and no, I don't know the politically correct name for them but if you want to line me out on that too, go right ahead because I WOULD like to know what they are called.  There are also days when I couldn't spell to save my life and I never use a spell checker so I don't mind you sending me corrections on those too.

The only thing I do mind......

please, please, do not send me photographs copied out of a book that you did not publish.  Unless a book was published before 1923 it is COPYRIGHTED and you do not have the right to spread the pictures even if you do find them on the internet.  They maybe online but it doesn't mean they are legal.  Also, do not send me pictures that someone else shared with you unless you have their permission to do so.  I don't want Uncle Joe's pic if  I have to argue with Aunt Bess.

One more thing, while I am on the soapbox...a couple of years ago, I found where I had posted about 15 photographs of a certain cemetery in TWO cemeteries.  I had been selling my cd's for a while (this is the reason I quit selling them compiled) and sometimes there would be 2 to 15 on one CD.  Imagine my surprise when I found the cemeteries transcribed online with the wrong people in the wrong cemetery, perpetuating my mistake and pretending to have transcribed the cemetery.  If you are going to steal another person's work, you better be prepared that their mistakes will shine through as your mistakes.

With all that said, I want to thank all my friends who manage to keep me lined out...this website would be nothing without all of your help!  Hope everyone has the best weekend!

I got the following email from Kari and now I am curious too.  Does anyone know anything about this family?

Hello there!
I briefly lived in Jacksonville about five years ago with my husband. I am from San Antonio & He was born & raised in Arkansas and quite proud of it. So he would frequently take me to explore your lovely state on our free weekends. While driving on Interstate 64, I think, we came across the El Paso cemetery. Amused that I found a town so close to "home" we decided to check it out. I could be wrong about the exact locations but I'm pretty sure, if you follow the road around to the back of the cemetery, there are a group of similar headstones fairly close together. One large next to three smaller ones. but they are exactly the same style. It was a mother & her three Children. The epitaph's read they all died in the storm of 1916. That in itself struck me as tragic but when i noticed another matching headstone, large like the mothers, several yards away, I became curious. I figured it had to be the same family, but i couldn't understand why they weren't buried along side the rest of their family. Until i read the epitaph, which read "died by his own hand" and it was dated' I'm gonna say, around 1yr 1mth after the the date on the other markers. I assume that this headstone belongs to the husband and father. My guess is that he couldn't be buried with the rest of his family because it was blessed ground and his death was a suicide. My heart goes out to this poor man, and yes i know how ridiculous i sound. He died almost 60 yrs before i was even born. But this family and the story their gravestones told has stayed with me. I, unfortunately, could not remember much more than; El Paso, storm of 1916, & the last name Poole. I occasionally would search the Internet hoping to learn more about Mr. Poole & his family but nothing ever came up. Then I came across this website. The article about the storm and the death tolls mentions a family with the last name Pool, but i think the markers were spelled Poole. And it seems there were only 3 smaller headstones next to the mothers but the article says 5 children in that family died in the storm. I'm hoping that you may have some knowledge or a way to find out if the graves I'm remembering are the same family as mentioned on your site. The Poole family & their tragic story have been with me a long time and I'd love to know anything more you could possibly tell me. Thank You So Much!
Kari

Linda Hatcher came through for me with a link to the Grissard Cemetery at El Paso: http://www.rootsweb.com/~arwhite/cems/Grissard_Cemetery_files/grissard_cemetery_el_paso.htm  - Thanks Linda!

Added the following:

  •  Scimitar Building in Pulaski County
  •  Blanchard Springs Caverns, Izard County, Arkansas.  On a side note: I didn't know that there is a town called Blanchard Springs down towards El Dorado.  Now I do...The Caverns however, are in Mountain View, Izard County.  Totally the opposite way.  I wonder how many visitors have landed up in the wrong place?

Want to let you know about a new website I have up now.  Like I don't have enough to do....;)

This new website is going to cover restaurants in Arkansas.  We ( check out my Buds on the About Us page)  have a good start on Central Arkansas and we will be adding to it daily with new places and reviews.  I can't stand trying to find restaurant info online right now....most of the sites are not based in Arkansas, they add a lot of garbage, and you get to the point where its easier to grab the phone book.  It will also operate under the KISS motto.  If you have time, check it out and give me your input on features and suggestions.

Added some more to Washington County:

July 26, 2007
Added the American Legion Post 22 in Clarksville, Johnson County.  It was a pretty nice "castle" looking building.

You might want to get gas in Bentonville on SATURDAY!

A few weeks ago I was having a nice email exchange with A.L. Vick when the subject of "Cactus" Vic was brought up, which of course led to him having a page.  The third card down is my "Square Shooter" card, do you remember "Cactus" Vic?

This is the Arkansas Civil War marker located at Gettysburg, Pa.  I have added over 150 pages to the Gettysburg project but still have a bunch more to go.  Also behind on everyone's additions but hope to have them online soon!  I had hoped to be done with the Gettysburg pics before the 4th since the Battle of Gettysburg was fought July 1,2,3, & 4th of July 1863 but no such luck.  Hope everyone had a good holiday!
