Added 21 more pages to the Gettysburg collection.  For those of you who don't know, Arkansas did send troops to Gettysburg and there is a marker for Arkansas....I just haven't got to it yet.  ;)

June 27, 2007
Added about 25 markers to the Gettysburg page.  Trying to knock these out while I am motivated.

Added a couple of pictures to the Heilman Cemetery One page from Brian Cormack.  I love his pics!

Started a Gettysburg page and added some Brigade markers for units in North Carolina, including the Eternal Light Peace Memorial  Lots more to come.  Sure wish I could wiggle my nose and do everything I wanted to do!

Finally, Mark and I are back from vacation.  He took 1200 pics and I took 2600.  We were some picture taking fools!  I have pics of the caverns in Blanchard Springs, Arkansas...Lebanon, Ohio... Niagara Falls, Gettysburg, Boyd's Teddy Bear Farm, Arlington Cemetery and a few places in D.C.  We covered Gettysburg from one end to the other....probably 1200 of the monuments.  Wish I could have got them all but you can only do what you can do.  I think Mark was happy I was tired of photographing monuments by the time we got to Arlington or we would have never got out of there.  I have lots of things to say but will save it until I get the pics uploaded.  Be patient with me as I deal with all the email that came in and get back into sync.  Hope everyone is happy, safe, and healthy!

Added an article from Tina Ward on the Rice - Upshaw house in Randolph County.

Added William Boggess' final revision on Solon Borland.  ;)

Since I am basically on vacation for the next 2 (?) weeks, my posting will be sporadic at best with odd-ball stuff.  After all, isn't that what vacations are for, doing something you don't normally do?  I have quite a bit on my itinerary for the next couple of weeks which include Niagara Falls, Gettysburg, & Washington D.C. so look forward to lots of new pics.

I found this "obituary" on the internet and found it interesting.  Did you know him?

Obituary of Mr. Common Sense

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.

He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as: Knowing when to come in out of the rain; Why the early bird gets the worm; Life isn't always fair; and Maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6 -year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer Calpol, sun lotion or a band-aid to a student, but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband; churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge monetary settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust; his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason. His three stepbrothers survive him; I Know My Rights, Someone Else Is To Blame, and I'm A Victim.

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.

Alan Ginocchio sent me the following postcards for Pulaski County (Thanks Alan!):

Wayne & Annette Shaw, who is a postal collector sent me some photographs of a couple of places in Fulton County that no longer exist.  Thanks Annette!

So this next place at Kingsland, Cleveland County....the home of Charles Donley/Danley (I have seen it written both ways, so I am not sure) has more art than Eureka Springs.  You could stand in his yard all day and still not see everything!

This is one of those "if it can go wrong, it will go wrong" weeks for me.  :)  The menu system for Arkansas Ties has went haywire and I was hit with 8,450 emails that I am still trying to wade through.  I have also disabled the posting feature on the message board due to spam.  If you want to post something, send it to me by email.  I am thinking it will be less work to post that way than to clean up all the porn & junk posted on there now.  It was getting to 400 messages a day in spam.  Be patient, I have lots of new things to add this week, and you may need to clear your internet history settings to see them..  Hope everyone had a good memorial day weekend.

Added transcriptions of the Arkansas Gazette for 1826 & 1827.

May 18, 2007

In honor of those who have served our country and continue to serve our country, I am releasing over 25,000 pictures of the

Little Rock National Cemetery

free of charge.  I believe it is the only National Cemetery that has been photographed in its entirety, tombstone by tombstone and it is the one piece of work that I am most proud of.  You may submit a request for up to 5 pictures a week by sending email with the names to ArkansasTies@ArkansasTies.com

Arkansas War Memorials

For the past year now, I have worked on compiling the largest database of Arkansas War Memorials. This is not a

collection of links to other sites but photographs of the actual memorials.

Please look at the list, see what I have photographed and let me know of ones I am missing. There are about 15 counties that I don't have anything for so it would be nice to find some for those counties before I travel there.  I know I have lots of Veteran buddies on here so I am counting on you to help me get the word out that Arkansas does not forget.

This website will resume posting on May 29, 2007.

March 16, 2007
Added the following in Lonoke County:

Virginia Flesher sent me an early picture of the Ildewild School House, which I have added to that page.  Pretty cool to see people on the porch and then the pics years later.  Btw....Everyone is calling this the Idlewild School, which I want to call it too but the street sign next to it reads Ildewild, doesn't anyone know the correct spelling?  Linda Uhiren sent me two that I added to the page that were taken during the 80's.  I noticed the roofing had changed color.  Thanks Virginia and Linda!

This weekend I had the fortune to tagalong with Mark on a Habitat for Humanity ground breaking project in Lonoke.  Pictured here are members of the local clergy who came together to "break ground."  I also got to meet Mark's Habitat friend Mary Ann Taft and her son John Taft.  If there is a volunteer of the year in Lonoke, I am nominating Mary Ann.  She also volunteers for the women's shelter and the food pantry.  I will add to the pictures as the house is built.

More from Monroe county:

The best part of Clarendon was the Moore - Jacobs House off the beaten path on Main Street.  I want to thank Mr. Burton Moore and his son Jeremiah for taking the time to give me a tour of the place.  Mr. Moore cares for the estate of Mrs. Margaret (Moore) Jacobs and has done a wonderful job.  The "Study Chapel" is what caught my eye, but don't just drive by the place, get out and enjoy everything.  These are his roses.

Sunday, Mark and I drove over to Lake Degray and checked out the riding stables.  It was pretty cool...twenty bucks for an hour long ride.  Rides leave on the hour starting at 10.  They also have a riding stable at Lake Catherine, which might be a little closer for some people.

After our ride, we headed down to Old Washington and passed the FEMA trailers..  I had heard about the trailers down at Hope, Arkansas but until I saw them....I just did not believe how much money is going to waste down there.  Not only are there mobile homes but campers too...at LEAST 10,000 and they can't send them to other disaster areas...what is with that? The people in Dumas, Arkansas are just as good as the people in New Orleans.  If you have time, drop our reps a line and let them know what you think.

 FEMA - Katrina Trailers

Note: You can google these trailers and almost everything you come up with is going to be dated February 2006....they are still there and its now May 2007.  I love government red tape....which is exactly why I keep this a private website.
