I know that I seem to have been slacking this week, but trust me, I have been busy!  A few fast updates:

  •  Mr. Charles Durnett, who operated the www.Civilwarbuff.org website passed away on July 4, 2008.  I have volunteered to operate & maintain the website.  If you haven't checked it out, Mr. Durnett did a  great job and left some very big shoes to fill.
  •  Mr. Alberson dropped me a note on the Maumelle Veterans Memorial.  The Maumelle city council voted  8 - 0 for NO FISHING at the memorial.  $100 fine.
  •  The Arkansas Genealogical Society is presenting Desmond (Walls) Allen's seminar on "Let's get started in Genealogy ".  For more information and seating availability contact - Jan Davenport at 501-912-3587. Seminar information: http://www.agsgenealogy.org/pdf_files/2008seminarAug.pdf

That's pretty much it for right now. - Pris

6 days since my last posting....I know I am behind.

Several people had told me about this marble horse in Pangburn so I dropped by there this weekend.  It's actually a plastic horse but you wouldn't know it from a distance.  If anyone knows the story on it, drop me a line at ArkansasTies@ArkansasTies.com.

July 23, 2008

Let's run with a little Lincoln County today:

July 22, 2008

Mr. Jim Alberson of Maumelle just sent me the following:

At last night Maumelle council meeting 5 members of the council voted to allow fishing at the Maumelle Veterans Memorial. The Maumelle Veterans Memorial was built to honor our nations veterans not to used as a fishing dock. If you feel as me do (the Maumelle Veterans Memorial Committee) please voice your concerns to your council representative or you can email the mayor at mayor@maumelle.org.

Watch channel 11 news tonight. A story on the Memorial.

Thanks, Jim Alberson

I have moved this story to it's own page at Maumelle Veterans Memorial.

On one of our trips down to the Alum Cove Nature Area, Mark and I  ran into an older couple (who just happened to be from Cabot too)  in need of help.  The woman had broke her ankle and could not walk.  Mark carried her on his back almost 3/4 of a mile back to their car.  Last night the city of Cabot recognized his "Random Act of Kindness" &  I just wanted to let him know how proud I am of him!  ;)

While I am at it, Cabot has put all the Town Council minutes online...all the way back to 1917.  Click on the City Clerk Folder and then go from there: http://www.cabotar.gov/WebLink7/Browse.aspx  - Keyword searchable too, how much more can you ask for?

Mark receiving his certificate from the Mayor of Cabot, Eddie Joe Williams.

Some odd ball stuff to throw in the hat today:

At the new State Veterans Cemetery -

At Forrest Hills Cemetery -

Bill Clinton - Hot Springs, Arkansas

July 16, 2008

Hot Springs is the best value around if you live in Central Arkansas.

Every duck in Hot Springs has a sign that says ride for $4.00, however, don't be fooled...it's a gimmick.  You can ride the duck for $4.00 (actually $12) if you buy a package to visit the Josephine Tussaud Wax Museum and the Winery Museum.  Total package for two people was $28....so they are actually conning you into spending  more and the price goes from $4 to $14...unless you were going to visit the wax museum anyway.

While I am at it...the duck tour goes down Central Avenue, cuts over to a back road and travels to the lake (no scenery), enters the water at the lake on the right side of the Hamilton House Restaurant, floats around the restaurant, which of course they advertise, and then out of the water on the left side and back downtown, following the same path.  Trip might be 30 minutes total.
