through Little Rock!

In the day time, Gilbert is a busy little town
with lots of activity but early in the morning, before everyone
gets started....

never been and just want to check it out, please feel free to
virtually join us on our trip.
Tomorrow, I will post pics from the little town
of Gilbert and Leslie. Hope everyone had a great weekend!

A few years ago, I was blessed to meet my
wonderful friend, Kay Tatum. I call her my butterfly
because she is just into everything "Arkansas" and everything
"Little Rock" and flutters here and flutters there doing good
things. I wanted to know about the
David O. Dodd
Centennial Rose and she fluttered around and found just what
I needed. The other night I had the opportunity to see a
presentation by Charles Witsell on early Little Rock. It
was late and I had to leave without getting more information on
the Ashley Mansion. So what does Kay do, she flutters her
wings and voila! We now have a photograph of the Ashley
Mansion, courtesy of the Arkansas Historic Museum and Charles
Witsell. Thank you Kay, you are the best! Love Ya!

Tom Helms has published a new book titled
"Military
Service and Civil Records of Confederate and Union Soldiers
Index - Lawrence County, Arkansas".
This looks like a wonderful resource for anyone researching in
that area or the Civil War in Arkansas. He has donated a
complete name index and I have posted it to the Lawrence County
page but you can get to it by clicking on the book name in this
post. Thanks Tom!

Big News, even
BIGGER than last weeks news. You are
going to need to sit down for this because you are not going to
believe it.
Desmond (Walls) Allen, aka Arkansas Research has
rolled out a whole NEW website. Other than adding new
products, this is the first big change in her website since the
dark ages. Lots of tips, lots of books, and lots of
Arkansas! What more can you ask for while researching your
Arkansas people. Just click on her new logo and it will
take you straight over to her website.

Sherry Throgmorton sent us a wonderful old
article on Medal of Honor recipient S/Sgt James R. Hendrix.
Thanks Sherry!

I think the forum is all straightened out now.
I hope so because I have been to China and back again working on
it. Special thanks to my Sweetie for the flowers and
putting up with me!
Mrs. Euna Beavers sent us the information for
obtaining her Conway & Perry County Books. I am told that
these are invaluable if you are researching in those areas.

Well if it can go wrong, it has! My
website has to be moved from a windows server to a unix server
to accommodate the new forum. Thank you to everyone who
has sent letters of support and posted. Cross your fingers
everything can be moved smoothly!

There are many long since forgotten towns in
Arkansas, but if you have ancestors in Pope and Yell county or a
love of old Arkansas history, then maybe you will find something
in this article - Norristown, Arkansas.

Recently I had the opportunity to visit the
Reichardt House here in Little Rock which is owned by Mr. and
Mrs. Tommy and Lakresha Diaz. This is a wonderful old house with
many original features and it's in the historic Hanger Hill
neighborhood.

Lakresha is president of the Hanger Hill
Neighborhood Association and they are gaining momentum restoring
that area of town. She is building a great site with some
Little Rock history at
http://www.hangerhill.org/. In addition to this, she
is also interning over at Oakland Cemetery with some wonderful
preservation plans. She is originally from Canada, but
thankfully, is making her home here in Little Rock and it's
great to see some younger enthusiasm for Arkansas history.
Drop in, check out her website and show her some support, we
need to keep her motivated!
One more thing, I mooched the following off the
LittleRock.com website, time is short since it is tomorrow.
"Little Rock Wind Symphony’s 13th Annual Flag
Day Salute to the Red, White & Blue
June 13, 2009 - 7 PM
MacArthur Park, 503 E. Ninth Street
The celebration begins at 7:00 p.m. with the Presentation of
Colors by the U.S. Air Force Color Guard from Little Rock Air
Force Base; the Pledge of Allegiance led by the Boy Scouts of
Troop 604; and the National Anthem performed by Little Rock Wind
Symphony under the direction of Dr. Karen Fannin.
The concert is not to be missed. We’ll have hand-clapping
marches, flag-waving patriotic songs, and toe-tapping Broadway
show tunes. There will be free ice cream courtesy of Blue Bell
Creameries, free flags to wave donated by Modern Woodmen of the
World, and free bottled water from K-LOVE radio. There will be
special recognition of all those who serve our country,
including veterans, soldiers, civil servants, and public
servants.
The celebration is hosted by MacArthur Museum of Arkansas
Military History which will be open for pre-concert visits to
the exhibits, including Red Tails: Tuskegee Airmen of World War
II. The museum invites everyone to bring their tattered Old
Glories for a proper flag disposal that the museum will have
later in the year.
In case of rain, the event will be postponed to the next day,
Sunday, June 14th.
We invite all to bring picnic baskets, lawn chairs, and the
kids! The concert is sponsored by Target and admission is free.
Here’s to the Stars and Stripes Forever!

I am still behind in my email but I am soon to
finish up my home improvement projects and then I plan on
catching up! I have had quite the week...last Thursday I
had a blow-out on the interstate (apparently I ran over a nail
or something, Sunday I broke a brand-spanking new pair of
glasses, and then today my air conditioner decided to go on the
blitz, ugh. Everything is lined back out now and I am
ready for "normal"' so lets start the week with a list of the

People love to socialize and in Little Rock,
the Boat House (also
known as the Little Rock Athletic Association) was the place
to be. I don't know what year the Boat House ceased to
operate but maybe one of my readers can enlighten us.

Added the final installment of
William E. Woodruff, the
father, as memorialized by his three daughters,
Miss Jane
Georgine Woodruff,
Mrs. Frances Woodruff Martin, and
Mrs. Evelina Woodruff Vaughan.
This is a wonderful look back to early Arkansas even if you are
not related to William Woodruff.

This is a test. I am having a few problems
with website gremlins, hopefully this is taken care of and I can
move on.
