The Deal House – Monticello, Arkansas
March 10, 2012
Steve Sandlin sent me the following letter:
We bought an old victorian home in Monticello. AR. We have been restoring it slowly but are having a really hard time finding history on it. I was told the original records were lost in the courthouse fire many years ago.
I do know it was built in the late 18 to early 1900s. The current adress is 417 South Gabbert St. Gabbert was originally called Childrens street. It is a very large beautiful home built in the era of the Allen house but a lot of mystery surrounds our house. Any knowledge you or your readers may have of early Drew County would be very helpful.
House 1
Here are a few pictures of the house. The one labeled “house before” is the very first picture taken of the house with the closed balcony. The “house 1″ attachment is with the balcony opened but unpainted. Then the “house 2″ is the most recent with a bit of remodeling done to it. I hope this helps. Also, the house was called the “Deal” house.
If you have more information or any stories on the house, please drop Steve a line at goobootink@yahoo.com or Pris at ArkansasTies.com.
