Alan came through for me on this unknown structure within an hour of posting, how cool is that?  I love the internet.  The unknown structure is what remains of the old Centennial School, which now is part of Centennial Park.  Thanks Alan!   December 14, 2007 Added: in Pulaski County:  Old article on the history of the State Capitol. December 13, 2007 Getting a jump on the 13th, I have added the following at the Arkansas State Capitol:  Several internal memorials including Pearl Harbor and World War II markers.  Sculptures of several Governors.  Christmas at the Capitol - I honestly cannot say anything great about this display, it is the poorest display in Arkansas I am sure.  None of the trees outside are decorated and the Capitol itself looked so bad on the outside I didn't even bother to photograph it.  Inside was ok, but much better last year.  This year it looks like they threw part of the same stuff they used last year but didn't even go for the full effect.  Politics aside, I am not happy with Beebe...the buck stops with him.  On a lighter note and not knowing what possessed me...maybe the boredom of the Capitol display in general....I photographed the Capitol restrooms.  Yes, the men and women's...Mark snuck me into the men's.  :)  It was somewhat interesting...kind of an old-time feel transporting me back to the 40's maybe?  The only modern updates being diaper tables and automatic flushes installed on the toilets. November 20, 2007 Added:  The story of a long forgotten 13 year old black girl named Catherine Lawson from 1905. - This story always intrigued me so I finally went and looked up the newspaper article on it.  Explosion at Camp Robinson Investigated. - I only have the names of 2 men out of 12 but if you can tell me the rest of them, I will surely add them.  Lonoke County minister robbed at gunpoint by teenage girls and likes it. <----Imagine that!  :) and finally, I ran across the most interesting story...if you are not from Arkansas, this probably won't be any big deal for you, but if you are from here, you will probably find this interesting....in 1944 the Army was using the small lakes over by the Old Mill in North Little Rock for training.  Two boats went down and 11 men drowned.  There is a memorial somewhere for these men and when I find it I will post it.  Until then, here are the articles and a couple of pics.  Lakewood Tragedy. Added a page for:  Dogpatch - Marble Falls in Newton County.  County seat historical marker for Pope County  Sequoyah Memorial in Dover, Pope County  Washington Monument Marble Memorial   November 14, 2007 For those of you who don't know, this is the William Woodruff house.  It sits just a few blocks from the Clinton Presidential Library on prime land that developers are interested in.  There is a drive underway to purchase it by the Quapaw Quarter Association and they need our help.  Check it out and if you can send them a small check, please do so.  This is one of the best houses in Little Rock and we cannot afford to lose it! Save the William Woodruff House A few months ago, I was approached about listing all of the soldiers buried on foreign soil that were from Arkansas.  Yesterday I was contacted by Ms. Natasja van Dijk, who has adopted the grave of  Private Johnnie M. March 12, 1943 - Grant County, Arkansas (9) February 6, 1948 - Newton County, Arkansas (5) & finally this one, which surprised me the most because it happened in downtown Little Rock. Added the Alum Cove Natural Bridge in Newton County, Arkansas. Alum Cove One | Two | Three We went down to the Alum Cove to photograph it on November 4, but upon our arrival found an older couple in distress.  Ms. Hazel Young had broke her leg right above the ankle & was unable to walk.  Mark carried her all the way out of the woods which was quite some distance.  Not realizing how close to the bridge we had been, we decided to call it a day and come back.  This weekend, we were able to get some pretty good pictures.  It is a pretty kewl place and if you get a chance to go, please do, just be careful and take someone with you!
